Gordian-Phrygian Period Furniture

 

B.C. After 750, Phrygians who came to Anatolia from Europe spread towards the inner regions of Anatolia and ruled in Gordion, the capital of Ankara, Polatlı. The Phrygians, which are the transition zone between eastern and western civilizations, have created a unique culture even though they were influenced by both cultures. The Phrygians, who developed in mining and woodworking, were particularly advanced in processing and shaping wood, and in their works that have come to our day, they show how much they have developed in wooden furniture workmanship. Phrygians are a community with a unique Anatolian culture. He contributed to Anatolian civilization in many ways. One of the most original art branches of the Phrygians is furniture, because of its geographical location, living in the forest area has led the Phrygians to go further in furniture by mastering the processing and shaping of wood. Various types of wooden furniture have been found in the Tumulus tombs in Gordion, and we can understand what the Phrygian furniture looks like. Phrygian furniture is exhibited in Gordion and Ankara Anatolian Civilizations Museum. If it is necessary to define Phrygian wood works in general, it should be noted that they contain a wide repertoire as a genre; Service tables, tables, screens, plates, toys, stools, chairs, bed pieces and fans constitute important parts of the Phrygian woodwork repertoire. One of the main aims of the study is to examine the works of the Phrygians, one of the many civilizations that lived in Anatolia, to claim the cultural heritage and transfer it to the next generations. In this study, the Phrygian civilization art and furniture belonging to the Phrygians were examined.
