Creating a "Feeling", Not a "Structure": The Case of the Troy Museum
It is known that museums play a major role in the increase of cultural tourism in the world. Museums are one of the most important elements of cultural tourism. As in previous years, the understanding of museology in the logic of archiving and librarianship in the form of collecting, storing and exhibiting the appropriate ones leaves its place to a more modern understanding of museums. Museums are undergoing significant changes and transformations, such as the exhibition of artifacts, the change and diversification of museum management and the services provided in museums, the increasing interest in museums, their changing functionality, management, architecture and quality. In the past, museum buildings, where works of art were exhibited and were educational spaces, now appear as participatory, experienced, interactive and entertaining museums in different concepts. It is possible to read modern and contemporary lines in the design of museums, whose general purpose is to add value to the city and create new focal points. The Troy Museum, which is an example of the new museum understanding, is located in the ancient city of Troy, the city of mythology, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The ancient city of Troy has a long history with Homer's Iliad, Trojan legends and a history dating back to 3000 BC. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism opened a national museum competition in 2011 and brought this heritage to our country with the Troy Museum. The Troy Museum was completed in 2018 after a long construction process. The Troy Museum will be analyzed physically, spatially and contextually within the scope of this study. It is aimed that the data obtained will provide light and infrastructure for the new museum buildings to be designed in our country. |
