Deterioration and Conservation Problems of Historical Buildings in the Urban Texture of Balıkesir
Throughout history, all structures built by humans have been subject to various deteriorations, both by natural processes and by human hands. With the acceleration of urbanization processes due to modernization movements and the development of construction technologies, the city has become unable to preserve its historical building stock on a macro scale. While almost every Anatolian city has experienced this change, the historical texture of Balıkesir has also been affected by this situation. This study aims to determine the deteriorations observed in the structures and to discuss the conservation problems of the structures by examining approximately 180 historically qualified structures, most of which have been registered since the 1980s, in an area limited to eight neighborhoods, which constitute the commercial, social and cultural center of the city from past to present, in parallel with the historical development of Balıkesir. |
