Structural Performance of Timber Hypostyle Mosques: Hanönü Yukarı Küreçayı Mosque

Preserving and ensuring the sustainability of historical buildings, which are the most important part of our cultural heritage, requires knowledge of their structural behavior. Especially for Turkey, which is located in an earthquake zone, earthquake performances of historical buildings are very important. In order to transfer these structures to future generations in a healthy way, structurally sensitive points can be determined with new generation simulation techniques. In this context, an example of timber hypostyle mosques, which have an important place among historical buildings in terms of construction technique and authenticity, was examined in this study. Kastamonu-Hanönü Yukarı Küreçayı Mosque, which is located in the earthquake zone and hosts many timber hypostyle mosque, was selected as the case study. Structural analyzes have been made to determine the structural behavior of the mosque and its resistance to earthquake. The structural performance of the mosque was revealed with the evaluation of the 3 dimensional finite element analysis.
