A Research on the Typology of Traditional Houses: The Case of Kızılcabölük

Rural settlements; shaped by the climate and geography of the settlement and the culture and traditions of the people living in that region differ from region to region and even from village to village in the cultural richness of our country. Along with urbanization and rapid population growth, the traditional way of life has also been transformed. As a result of this transformation, traditional rural houses, which are an important part of our cultural heritage, are in danger of extinction. These structures, which reflect the sociocultural structure, lifestyle and architectural characteristics of the period in which they were built, must be sustained and transferred to future generations. In this study, traditional housing typology, which is located in Kızılcabölük Town of Denizli's Tavas district and shaped under the influence of hand-loom looms, which is the most important element of the regional rural life style, was examined. Weaving, which directly affects the way of life of the public, has had a major impact on the plan organization of the dwellings. In the study, surveys of fourteen traditional residences were taken, four of them registered and ten unregistered. These residences were examined in terms of plan and facade features, materials and construction systems. In addition, the facade elements of the traditional houses in the town have been examined and the door and window typologies have been created. Research shows that Kızılcabölük houses have a unique structure with plan scheme, materials, construction technique and facade elements. This study will shed light on the works to be done to ensure the cultural sustainability of the traditional rural housing texture in Kızılcabölük.
