Meeting with Basic Design Students in Narratives

The basic design course is given to the students in the first academic years of all design disciplines and can be expressed as the alphabet of design. Basic design course is expected to be clearly explained and understood because it includes the principles used in all design and project work, throughout the designer’s professional life. Students who take the course are young minds at the beginning of university education, have not developed design knowledge and experience yet. It is observed that a subject that is theoretically explained in the course does not reach the students in the beginning and as they develop their drawing and design skills and knowledge, they perceive the basic design concepts. In this context, it is thought that their awareness of their paperworks are in low levels, especially in the first lessons. In this paper, what’s the most effective way of teaching basic design and is there any proper method is sought. In the study, the idea of developing a system about basic design teaching methods is emphasized. Suggestions made about the basic design course through the paper works of Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University’s Interior Architecture and Environmental Design first year students.
