A Study on Excavation-Project and Renovation Works for Kayme Palace at Şemdinli, Hakkâri
Kayme Palace Residence that was built in the characteristics of traditional Şemdinli regional houses' architectural feature is located at Bağlar Village in Nehri Region, south-west of Şemdinli District in Hakkâri. Islamic and Christian faiths have important parts on forming the region, defining the cultural pattern in Hakkâri area. Today an important part of architectural diversity and richness of Şemdinli is on Nehri Region in some measure. Unfortunately historical pattern is damaged because of the lack of attention to conservative precautions for architectural buildings from Middle Ages by local people and local/central authorities. Kayme Palace is one of those buildings that were able to survive in spite of all these negativities in the region. According to two epitaphs on upper corners of the west entrance gate's siege arch, the building was built between the years of 1909 and 1911. Surveying, restitution and reconstuction projects for Kayme Palace have been prepared and approved by the directory of Van Regional Protection Board for Cultural and Natural Heritage. Kayme Palace that was built as two storeys in masonry technique, does not have characteristics of a palace which was built by classical architectural mentality. There is not any scientific data about its' being a palace in the historical records. Form and function of the current building confirm these data. Kayme Palace’ preservation project has been prepared by Hakkari Governorship's Secretary General Of Special Provincial Administration in the year 2011. All architectural preservation projects and reports about the building have been prepared by Yüzüncü Yıl University's Architecture Department in the year 2017. Kayme Palace’s restoration and application works have been fulfilled between 2016 and 2018 and completed. |
