Assessment of Social Housing in terms of Environmental Sustainability: The Case of Southeast Anatolia Region
The phenomenon of social housing, which emerged in order to meet the housing needs of the working class with industrialization, continues to be produced with its positive and negative aspects. Properties such as rapid, serial and economic production required the collective implementation of social housing. With the proclamation of the Republic in our country, social housing production started to be made especially through the cooperatives in Ankara in order to meet the housing needs of the civil servants and since 1980, the Housing Development Administration has been effective in the collective housing production. Today, housing policy of the Housing Development Administration is seen as an economic advantage, especially for the lower and middle income groups. However, ignoring the topographical, climatic and cultural characteristics of cities and building similar housing shows that environmental sustainability cannot be fully achieved. In this context, in this study, the housing units located in the metropolitan cities of the Southeastern Anatolia Region were evaluated in accordance with the environmental sustainability criteria and proposals were brought forward. |
