Comparison of Today's Ecological Design Criteria with Ecological Traces in Historical Buildings: Talas-Kayseri Sample Area

Throughout the history, societies reflected their cultures and lifestyles with their environments which they have shaped around. The developments in technology and using all the available resources for cheap and fast production without considering the outcomes have caused the emerge of new environmental problems. At the present time, the mobilization of all resources for cheap and fast production has caused environmental problems. As a result of increasing problems causing too much damage, efforts are being made to minimize the damage to the environment. Ecological building designs are the most important reflection of this. In this direction, ecological structures are encouraged by the development of green certification systems. In order to produce sustainable designs in the spaces where we live, it is important to consider the way that human beings shape the environment in the historical process. Based on this situation, the buildings in the historical residential fabric in the Talas district of Kayseri were examined and ecological traces were investigated by using the criteria of international certification systems. Historical places; ecology, energy, economy, indoor environment quality, health and welfare, innovation, management, land use, transportation, renewable technology, water, environmental pollution, CO2 emissions are compared in terms of compliance with material and waste criteria. According to the analysis, it was found that there are ecological approaches in historical buildings.
