The Role of Furniture and Furnishings in Decoration in the Personalization of Young Bedrooms

 

Understanding the factors that shape the preferences of adolescents and young adults in decoration their rooms is important to support their personal development. Also, understanding this issue is important in terms of obtaining useful tips for managers, designers, and marketers in sectors related to the production of decoration elements such as furniture and furnishing. In this study, individuals 14-25 years old and living in Turkey's Kayseri province perspectives and attitudes towards the objects (furniture, furnishing and other decoration items) they have chosen to personalize their rooms are analyzed. Also, the effects of gender on the preferences and attitudes of these individuals were investigated. Descriptive statistical methods were used to analyze this research data and the results are presented in tables. Some results of the study are as follows; In general, individuals' purchasing decision becomes clear with the use of internet and social networks (50.8%). Especially girls preferred the internet and social networks (65.2%) and boys decided to buy it by interacting with their close environment (68.8%). furniture is the most important element of all individuals in the decoration of their rooms (43.3%). In the decoration of the bedroom, males prefer items reflecting their personality (52.3%), branded (66.7%), local/ethnic (51.6%), or sports-related (52.4%). In the decoration of the bedroom, girls prefer feminine items (65.8%) and fashion and trends to the appropriate color (58.3%) and forms (57.5%) items.
