A Model Proposal: The Changing Design Process in the Context of Computational Design
This research aims to examine the computational design process in the context of all the changes in the research by reaching the clues about the changes in the design process, revealing a new model related to this process. It also aims to discuss the differences between the conventional design process and model. In this context, the design processes of 15 examples of computational design methods were examined, the concepts and techniques used in these processes were uncovered and by re-interpreting the underlying design process mode a new design process model was created which is different from the conventional design process model. In the sample analysis, unlike the conventional design process, some concepts and techniques used in the computational design process and the creative phase and application phase were determined, and the place and role of these concepts and techniques in the design process were questioned and a new model was formed. The concepts and techniques identified in the examples examined are; ”Variables”, “constraints”, “rules”, “relationality”, “components”, “variation”, “animation“, “simulation”, “optimization”, “rationalization / documentation”. When the new design process is compared to the current, the implicit and uncertain processes of the conventional design process, within the computational design processes, it has been observed that algorithms, parameters, rules, relations and variables are used; and they are transformed into open processes where new concepts and techniques are involved in the design process. |
