Investigation of the Relationship between Nomadic Lifestyles and Spatial Belonging in Furniture Design
On the move lifestyle is the common ground of the people currently called "modern/urban nomads" with the effect of the culture left by the historic nomad societies. Settling in is part of the most basic pursuit, the existence of humankind. Design has been shaped around settling in throughout its history. The need to be safe, to own, to have an identity has transformed with the lifestyles of the day into being yourself, becoming different and feeling complete by embracing this difference in life. Today's living conditions increase the instances of necessarily or voluntarily being on the move. Although individuals who are on the move for short or long term have different reasons for travel, they have common needs. Among these needs, meeting the "belonging" feeling of the individuals has become important. Especially furniture designs, which is an important need of the individuals and carry parts of the individual's identity plays an important role in the interaction of the relation between being on the move and spatial belonging. Furniture designs are analyzed by qualified examples in this interaction. The main challenge of this study is the analysis of the contribution of current designs on the user needs and spatial belonging. |
