Judicial Institutions from the Ottoman Period to the Present History, Architecture and an Example: The Re-Functioning of the Old Government House and Courthouse in Gaziantep and the Transformation Process into a Culture and Art Center
In this study, firstly the history of Antepte Courthouse in the light of the original documents in the Ottoman archives of the Prime Ministry, the history of the Judiciary, the history of the Kadilik and the history of the city of Antep, then the historical and contemporary structural features of Gaziantep Old Government House and the Courthouse Building, aimed to evaluate.The interventions and changes that the building has undergone so far will be determined on the basis of documents and functional and spatial changes parallel to the restoration project will be discussed. The mentioned function change has been realized by Gaziantep Municipality and it is aimed to transform the structure which has lost its function into Art Center. In this context, the architectural process of the new spaces and the contribution of the new functions created in the interior to the architecture of the building and the city will be discussed in this article. The subject is not abstract but a real work. According to this study, building street relationship and structural system strengthening the acquisition of the structure, our national value has an international value, as an example of the project has been opened to municipalities. Achievements such as the realization of the project, meeting with the citizens, the number of visitors and the awards received by the competition are presented in the conclusion section of the article as proof of these achievements. |
