Natural ventilation in atrium offices 'Example of temperate climate'
Natural ventilation, which is called replacing the air of an indoor environment with fresh air without using a mechanical device, is used for comfort, health and building cooling purposes. It can be realized with different methods and/or different building components in buildings, and it can also show differences in application according to climate zones. Atriums are one of the building components where natural ventilation is effectively provided. The main purpose of the natural ventilation system in atriums is to obtain low indoor temperature by removing the heated air from the upper levels of the atrium as much as possible in the summer season, and to transmit the hot air accumulated in the upper levels of the atrium to other spaces in the winter season. In this study, the effect of the atrium on natural ventilation was aimed to be seen, and office buildings with atriums in regions with temperate climates were examined within the scope of the study. In the examined examples, atriums were examined and evaluated according to the ventilation types applied in the building, the horizontal and vertical position of the atrium in the building, the atrium roof and facade features, and the ventilation scheme in the atrium plan and section. As a result of the study, it was observed that natural ventilation with chimney effect was provided in the atriums of the selected office buildings and various solutions were created in the atriums to increase the chimney effect. |
