Height of the Buildings: A Historical Investigation on Examples in Capital Ankara

 

High-rise structures were built with various design difference in many different regions. The high-rise buildings constructed with advanced technologies during the period they are constructed are at the forefront among the buildings that represent the architectural attitudes of their periods. In this study, the historical development of high-rise buildings was considered as a research subject and Ankara, which has a prominent place in architectural literature, has been chosen as the study area with its architectural environment. Ankara, the capital of the country, is a metropolis that should be an example in the country planning with its capital identity contributes significantly to the high-rise building stock of the country. At this point, it is important to examine the current situation of the city in terms of high-rise buildings construction. The process from the 1960s, when the first high-rise building was built, to the present was divided into ten-year periods, and the chronological order of the high-rise buildings, which were generally tower-shaped whose heights were larger than their base dimensions in the development of the city, was revealed in five separate periods. From the data obtained; at the beginning, it is observed that the high-rise structures, which were not rich in function, were solved by a single function, however as time progressed they were transformed into different and multifunctional structures. It is also important to note that there is an increase in the number of buildings implemented in the 21st century, and there is a serious leap in the height of the building in the last decade, especially since 21st century is considered as the century of speed and technology. In these periods, while the number and intensity of the high-rise projects have increased, in parallel with the economic, cultural, social and technological developments, their qualities have also improved. As a result, it is aimed that this study, which compiles and evaluates the high-rise buildings in Ankara having an important place in the architectural literature, and presents the chronological development, will constitute a step in the works to be carried out after it.
