Basic Design Teaching in Urban Planning Education: Planning Studio 1 Course Experience

Throughout the Planning Studio 1 course, whose purpose is to improve creativity of students and to obtain the ability of multi dimensional thinking and expression skill, the studies concentrate on orienting abstract thinking, obtaining visual perception skills, identifying and understanding the space by means of basic design principles. In this study, based on the experience of Planning Studio 1 course which is taught at Necmettin Erbakan University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of City and Regional Planning, it is aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of basic design education in reaching the goals of Planning Studio 1, problems encountered in the process of the course and achievements of the students at the end of the semester.
