Evaluation of Noise in Educational Areas – The Case of KTU Kanuni Campus

Physical conditions have to be optimum levels for effective educational period in education buildings. Noise is one of the most important physical conditions. The noise levels in indoor and outdoor places have to be under values signified standarts related to noise levels because of their negative effective on people. First of all, the noise levels should been measured in the places in order that this condition is determined. In the following process, some fundamental precautions should been taken in order that the values obtained over standart levels reduce below the levels. In this study, noise level measurements have been evaluated at 21 points fairly effected from noise belonging to vehicles and pedestrians in Karadeniz Technical University Kanuni Campus. In addition to this, noise level measurements have been evaluated at 3 points in interior places of 3 buildings which are close location effective noisy outdoor areas. The Equivalent Noise Levels and Maximum Time-Weighted Noise Levels obtained by the measurements were compared with minimum noise levels for indoor and outdoor areas described at WHO (World Health Organization) and “Directive Relating to the Assessment and Management of Environmental Noise” of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.
