Typological Analysis of Residential Facades in Rural Architecture of Akköy (Yalova/Turkey)

 

Surrounded by the Marmara Sea from the North and the West, Yalova city is located in the Marmara Regionand has an important location in terms of transportation because of its closeness to Istanbul, Kocaeli and Bursa, three of the country's most important socio-economic cities.Yalova having 226514 population in 2014 has 6 counties and 43 villages. Akköy from these villages is bound to Termal county of Yalova and is in a central location. Termal county has an important place in the tourism economy of the area with its hot springs and natural beauties. In this study, Akköy rural house architecture which has a significant place in Yalova traditional house pattern has been searched. Most of these houses are devastated completely and cannot be entered. Therefore, the registration of this cultural heritage before its devastation completely and the transfer to future generations and being guidance to the designs to be built is considered as significant. For this purpose, facade architecture of 10 houses considered as qualified through the fieldwork in Akköy have been examined through typological analysis method. As a result of there search conducted; It is seen that all the houses have two storeys, eavesed and hipped roofs and most of them have wooden skeleton-stacking system, wooden and metal entrance doors, wooden guillotine (vertical sliding) windows. According to the obtained data; It is thought that Akköy has an authentic rural architectural texture and can contribute to culture tourism in this region. Therefore, it is important to make the protection works on a foresaid houses, to restore them to their authentic structures and to make them functional again.
