Reflection of Modernism in Architecture and 20th Century Konya Modern Architecture
Modernism has affected all branches of art as well as architecture. Modernism in architecture, as a reaction to historicism in the 19th century, has developed as a new perspective, where functionality and plain lines came to the forefront, and which turned towards simplification and formal purification. It gained momentum especially in the 18th and 19th centuries with the rapid and technological construction techniques that emerged with industrialization and the industrial revolution. The reflections of modernism and modern architecture, which have affected especially European cities for many years, still continue today. As in the rest of the world, it is possible to read the traces of modernism in Anatolian cities. The study aims to take a closer look at the 20th Century Modern Architecture Period structures located in Konya, which has started to “anonymize” today and contains the typical features of modernist architecture. In line with this purpose, within the scope of the study; modern architecture products selected from Konya city center were examined in terms of mass, surface and plan relationship. |
