Message in Interior Surface Designs - An Experimental Examination on User Relationship

Spaces created with design consciousness, have characters that define themselves and distinguish them from other similar. Designers can send visual perception based messages to users expressing the character of space with the surface applications they apply in interior space. Such an arrangement helps increasing the interest of users in the space. For this reason graphical design on space surfaces is one of the important subjects to pay attention in design education. From this point of view the main aim of the experimental study is to emphasize the importance and effect of surface arrangements in interior space in order to present an alternative consideration opportunity to designers. Therefore the aim is to raise awareness that the spaces designed with interaction between human and space may be more genuine and catchy. From the designers' point of view the visual messages to be given in any functional space is a fictional problem. Therefore in the study one of the paths to be followed for graphic designs that will be fictionalized on vertical surfaces comprising the space was defined and applied by Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Architecture Interior Architecture Division second grade students. After that the level of perception by users regarding the visual messages sent by students by their designs were tested by survey technique. When the obtained findings were examined it was observed that the visual messages applied by designer on the surface could generally be perceived by users. Therefore the assumption related with the place and importance of visual communication languages being used in interior spaces was supported.
