The Relationship Between Painting and Space: Inspiring Projects

 

The connection between arts and architecture has advanced greatly after 1950s and in 2000s, it has become closely related to such artistic areas as painting, music, sculpture and cinema in cooperation with architecture and interior architecture. This cooperation of arts and structure, defined by Giorgio Vasari, has improved by the discourses of Kant and Hegel and still continues with the artistic pieces of artists and famous architects. In this study, the connection between painting and architecture and interior architecture will be explained with examples. This connection of paintings and space will be covered with examples from famous painter Mondrian, El Lissitsky, Theo van Doesburg, Picasso, Kandinsky to star architecture Zaha Hadid and painter-architect Nafi Çil. In this study, paintings from the exhibition named ‘’Asianadolu’’ by academician painter-architect İlham Enveroğlu, consisted of 50 pieces picture, between 2000-2003, are selected by first year students of the department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design in Faculty of Fine Arts in Konya Selcuk University in their Inteior Architecture Project-2 course during 2014-2015 education year, and used as a project base when creating forms. In the study, the development process of this project will be explained in detail and final products will be covered. Consequently, the contribution of painting into the project when creating forms has enabled students to establish better connections between painting and interior architecture, improved their creative aspects, orginated a unique way of thinking and provided them a chance to be intertwined with an artistic area. This study will contribute academicians in their education process and designers when creating forms.
