Space Syntax Analysis of Spatial Formation in Midyat Traditional Houses in Terms of Privacy

In this study, the effects of the socio-cultural structures of the housing users on the spatial organization were discussed. By examining how the spatial organization of the residences is shaped in terms of integration, depth, connectivity, centrality and visibility according to the privacy and personal space needs of the users, the compatibility of the residences with cultural requirements was questioned. Within the scope of the study, aim is to analyze the impact of cultural data on space organization, especially in terms of the concept of privacy, in traditional houses in Midyat using the space syntax method. Based on this, the aim of the study is to examine the spatial organization of three traditional houses in the Midyat district of Mardin province, through the integration, depth, connectivity, centrality and visibility values of the Space Syntax method. Additionally, it seeks to numerically analyze the effects of the concept of privacy under the cultural parameter on housing design and to reveal the decisive role of culture in spatial organization. In this context, it was evaluated how cultural needs affect space constructions and how these changes find solutions in the context of integration, depth, connectivity, centrality and visibility in residences. As a result of the study, the reflections of cultural data on space organization were determined numerically in line with the findings obtained, and suggestions for new housing designs were created in the light of this information. In addition, practical solutions were presented that emphasized the importance of cultural awareness in housing projects. In conclusion, the findings obtained from the study proved that the spatial pattern in traditional houses is a cultural indicator that encodes socio-cultural structure, privacy, gender and daily life into space.
