A Study on Naval and Nautical Design Education and Analysis of Studio Courses in the Education Program

Yacht designers are individuals who integrate design skills with engineering concepts with a multidisciplinary understanding and aesthetic sensitivities, create original designs, and are/should be involved in the process from beginning to end in design and production. In many marine vehicles, especially private tour boats, the fact that each vehicle is specific to the person and function necessitates further deepening of expertise in the field of design. The training of qualified individuals in this field also emerges as an important gap in this sense. Yacht design education in Turkey and the development of this education are of great importance for the sustainable development of the Turkish maritime sector. Yacht design education is still in its development phase, and under the leadership of universities, this important education has brought to the forefront the training of qualified designers needed in the sector. Naval and Nautical Design education, as in other design disciplines, presents a unique combination of traditional lecture-based, subject-based teaching and design-focused, studio-oriented method.While traditional academic education focuses on theoretical knowledge, in this discipline, it is inevitable for education to be an applied education covering the real world. This hands-on approach prepares students for the specific needs and challenges they will face in the industry, while also developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
