Architectural Movements and the Stairs with its Semantic Dimension

 

Stair is the circulation tool connecting different elevations in the simplest sense. The positioning, form, shape, size, material and architectural style of stairs as a circulation tool in building design is an important design problem. Throughout history, stairs have carried cultural, symbolic and religious images. The stairs, which differ in form, add value to the building as a living and identity area where public life takes place. Stairs have changed over time depending on social, social life and architectural styles and have differed in their formal features. Stairs, with their symbolic and identity values, stand out as an important element in building space.Staircase research generally focuses on construction, detail, material and typology information.In this study, the development of stairs with their historical, formal and functional dimensions and their current formations are mentioned. In the continuity of architectural history, stairs have carried the characteristic features, structural, formal, formal features and ornamental details of the period to which they belong. Stairs have become an important part of the building identity and space atmosphere. In this study, the historical importance and meaning of the stairs are emphasized. Staircase design is important for every architectural period. The staircase is shaped as a reflection of architectural trends.
