The Evaluation of Contemporary Additions in Restoration Works of Historical Buildings from the Perspective of Space Organizatıon Types

 

There is an important heritage built with a wide variety of building materials and construction systems belonging to different centuries, which reveals the common values and historical accumulations of all people from past to present. This legacy bridges the past and the future. Historical buildings that have undergone many changes over time can survive as long as they can adapt to today's conditions. For this reason, it should be ensured that it is protected and maintained by the right methods. Aim: The aim of this study is to make general determinations about contemporary annexes, to determine which methods are used in the designs by examining the buildings in accordance with the design criteria of the contemporary annexes planned to be made in the historical building or texture, and to be a resource that can be used as a reference in contemporary annex applications in historical buildings. is intended to be created. Method: Within the scope of this study, the concept of the contemporary addition, which is one of the types of interventions made in the process of protection and restoration of historical buildings, has been examined. A sample group consisting of 85 samples, where contemporary addition applications were made, was determined. Findings: Within the scope of this study, how contemporary addition added to historical buildings can be designed without damaging the texture and historical structure of the city in which they are located, approach decisions, design criteria have been discussed in detail. Conclusion: As a result, the general criteria related to the contemporary addition concept that emerged in the 1800s are still valid today. Contemporary addition should be constructed with modern materials and technology in a way that is easy to understand, different from the current style of the building, and in a way that does not overshadow an important feature of the traditional structure.
