A Research on Energy Efficiency in Buildings Built with Prefabricated Construction Systems

 

With the Industrial Revolution, industrialisation in production systems has been developing rapidly in accordance with the requirements of the age. In parallel with the development of industrialisation, machine intensive production is increasing in the building production sector. Prefabricated systems are the main ones of industrialised construction methods that provide faster construction with less manpower in building production. Prefabricated systems are classified as wood, steel, concrete according to the material used, frame, panel and module systems according to the construction system. Different materials and different systems can be mixed in the same production. Prefabricated systems are frequently preferred when rapid production is needed due to natural disasters, wars, migration, rapid population growth. Nowadays; prefabricated systems are preferred not only because they provide fast building production, but also because they can contribute to the energy efficiency of buildings. In this study; low energy buildings constructed using prefabricated systems, which use energy effectively and efficiently, are analysed. All of the analysed buildings have a highly insulated building envelope. Especially prefabricated panels are widely used to produce low energy buildings. Since the thermal conductivity level of the building envelope directly affects the energy performance; it was determined that all of the examples constructed using prefabricated systems examined within the scope of the study have very high energy performance and are low energy consuming buildings.
