Restoration of Cultural Heritage Using Augmented Reality Technology: The Example of II. Kılıçarslan Mansion
There are structures from the Roman, Seljuk and Ottoman periods on the Alaaddin Hill in the city of Konya. II. Kılıçarslan Mansion, which is one of these structures, has a significant impact on the cultural and architectural texture of the city, which has led to studies for the restoration of the building. Nowadays, technology plays an important role in the restoration of cultural heritage. Augmented reality technology, which is one of the technological developments, also helps to document and protect the restoration of cultural heritage nowadays. In addition, the virtual project, which is made using augmented reality technology, gains importance in restoration studies due to the benefits it provides in evaluating the environment, composition and suitability of the historical building. In this study, it is aimed to examine the advantages of augmented reality technology in the restoration of II. Kılıçarslan Mansion. In addition, the restoration process of II. Kılıçarslan Mansion has been discussed and it has been tried to explain what the benefits of nowadays developing technologies are according to the traditional method. In the study, examining the advantages of using augmented reality technology in the restoration of cultural heritage; literature research was conducted. In line with the data examined within the scope of the study, three-dimensional models made with augmented reality technology in II. Kılıçarslan Mansion were useful in understanding the damage situation. Moreover, the use of augmented reality technology in the restoration of this mansion allowed the evaluation of different repair options. Additionally, it has been concluded that this technology helps the architect due to its contribution to the restoration of the cultural heritage and the testing of the virtual project in the real environment. |
