The Impact of Biophilic Design Principles on Office Spaces
Rapid urbanization in recent years and the accompanying situation of people being away from nature have brought different design searches to the agenda in built environments. Biophilic design, one of these searches, has attracted increasing attention as a design approach in recent years. The biophilic design approach aims to create favorable conditions to re-establish and improve the human connection with nature and natural processes. As biophilic design criteria; natural elements such as plants, natural light, water, natural materials and natural colors are integrated into many building designs such as schools, hospitals, offices and residences. From this point of view, the aim of this article is to reveal how biophilic design criteria are applied in office spaces. In this context, the presence of 14 biophilic design criteria classified by Browning et al. (2014) under the headings of nature in space, natural analogs, nature of space were investigated in "Biophilic Office / Andyrahman Architect", "Interface's new global headquarters", "Second Home Hollywood Office / Selgascano", "Tropical Shed / Laurent Troost Architectures" offices. The evaluations provide guidance for the dissemination of biophilic design principles to create positive impacts on the health, well-being and performance of office workers. |
