Production-Based Temporary Rural Settlements: Tokat Vineyard Houses

 

Since agriculture and animal husbandry require seasonal settlement in different climates and geographies, it has led to the formation of temporary settlements in various regions of Anatolia. The residences, which form the core of these settlements, are generally designed with functionality in the foreground, to accommodate the most effective solutions with the least effort, and to be equipped with only the equipment to meet the requirements. In the examples of these houses, some of which are designed to be built and reassembled, designed to be used for viticulture in Tokat, it is seen that all kinds of comfort are considered as well as requirements. These structures, which differ from their counterparts with these features, were created by using adobe filling and masonry stone between the wooden carcasses; they also find a place among the examples in the world due to their comprehensive designs for a specific agricultural product. In this study, vineyards, which are one of the important elements of grape cultivation and the vineyard culture from the past, in the rural area of Tokat are discussed. The aim of the study is to document these structures, which differ from their counterparts with their architectural features, and to ensure their sustainability by developing conservation strategies. In this context, the relationship between the buildings and the vineyards was defined on a parcel basis, in line with the data from the field study conducted between the years 2020-2021 using the survey and digital photography method; compared with similar ones in terms of spatial characteristics, construction techniques and materials; The data obtained are presented by exemplary within the scope of documenting and transferring these structures, which constitute one of the lost components of rural culture, to future generations.
