Investigation of the Effect of Natural Light on Indoor Perception: The Case of "Divriği Great Mosque and Hospital"

 

Light plays an important role in the processes of perceiving, experiencing, and sensing the environment for humans. Additionally, it is one of the most significant elements in determining the perception of volume, shape, and color in interior spaces, contributing to the formation of spatial integrity. Numerous studies demonstrate the positive effects of natural light on the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of individuals. Therefore, the impact of natural light on interior spaces carries great architectural importance. In this context, the study firstly addresses the physiological and psychological effects of natural light on individuals, as well as its contributions to the perception of interior spaces. Divriği Great Mosque and Hospital is a historically significant architectural structure that prominently features the use of natural light in its interior spaces and captivates attention with various light and shadow play on its facades. This study investigates the effects of natural light on the perception of interior spaces through the example of the "Divriği Great Mosque and Hospital." Accordingly, the historical and cultural significance of Divriği Great Mosque and Hospital, as well as its architectural and structural features, are discussed, and the impact of natural light usage and distribution within the structure on the atmosphere of the interior space is examined.
