This article aims to examine the architectural aspect of the soapery building island of the “Ülfet Food and Soap Industry Joint Stock Company” factory plant located in the Nizip district of Gaziantep province of the Southeastern Anatolia Region and to reveal its importance in terms of architectural history. This factory facility, which is one of the very important investments in Turkey during the years it was established, has pioneered the development of the industry in the district and has given a new identity to the district. It is understood that the building group examined in the scope of the study, which contributes to the region and the district in major economic, cultural and social areas, has been enlarged by articulate buildings in line with the needs that have developed over time to the original soap factory building and thus the production capacity has been increased. Since the original projects of the buildings have not been found, it is not clear who designed and built the factory compound, but it is understood that an Italian company designed and took part in the construction of the facility. The subject has been discussed with literature research, on-site observation, examination, oral information, photographs, drawings and archive documents, and the change and transformation of the facility within the timeline has been tried to be determined. This 67-year-old facility is still a very important industrial heritage today and it is clear that its original structures such as the soap factory should be preserved. This study also aimed to contribute to the literature on the soap factory architecture of the factory facility as an important industrial heritage of our country. |
