A Conceptual Framework Proposal for Transversal Responsibility in the Urban Context: Expansions in the Context of İzmir Kızılay District and Bornova Stream

 

The study, which started by addressing the relationship between architecture and responsibility, develops a conceptual framework. With reference to the basic meaning of the concept of responsibility and the multi-actor and multidimensional structure of the architectural discipline, a framework that pays attention to cross-relationships is proposed. With the framework for cross-responsibility, it is aimed to analyze a section taken from the urban space and to develop conceptual discussions in this context. For this purpose, the scope of the study focuses on urban spaces where actors are diversified and decisions at different scales are together. Therefore, the changes in the urban scale that affect Kızılay Neighborhood and the Bornova Stream, in the Bornova district of İzmir, are described in a chronological manner. Then, the change in the urban scale is subjected to a reading with the conceptual framework. As a result of this argument, specific to Kızılay Neighborhood and the Bornova Stream the concepts of urban transformation and stream rehabilitation and the topics of universal and social responsibility come to the fore. While the study generally presents a conceptual framework that allows for diversified discussions according to different actors and actions, in particularly it reveals that the actors in the study area cannot develop the behavior of undertaking in the context of social and universal responsibility.
