Evaluation of Historical Sites with Morphological Approach in the Context of the Concept of Spatial Justice: The Case of Amasya Inner City

 

The cores of multi-layered cities, which have hosted many civilizations from the past to the present, have a dense urban texture with commercial areas and cultural heritage items. However, it is a matter of debate how suitable the urban cores are for universal design for everyone. In this research, in line with the problem of how the concept of spatial justice is measured in creating accessible, accessible, equitable, safe and quality spaces for everyone in the city center; It has been hypothesized that “the concept of spatial justice was ignored in the design and planning of the Icheri City in the historical city center of Amasya”. Within the scope of the study, it is aimed to discuss the Icheri Şehir region, which is within the boundaries of the urban protected area in the historical city center of Amasya, in the context of the concept of spatial justice. In this study, which was carried out at the intersection of architecture and sociology disciplines; Sub-titles of the concept of spatial justice in urban sociology were matched with the Space Syntax method, one of the numerical space analysis methods, in order to obtain numerical results and interpret the findings. In the study, the sub-concepts of the concept of spatial justice, security and accessibility, spatial integration, spatial separation, niche spaces, equal sharing, diversity and distribution of public spaces; The accessibility, global integration, local integration, readability, synergy, preference and visibility parameters of the space syntax method were measured. As a result of the analyzes made in the study; The hypothesis of the study was confirmed in line with the findings that there is a security gap in the area, that different age groups cannot use the area freely and that gender discrimination is observed.
