Architectural Design Education in the Sustainable Development Process
Sustainability has become an important concept that should be included in every stage of the architectural discipline. Considering the application area of the discipline of architecture, it is necessary to include the term sustainability in the whole process, since it is located in the natural environment, uses resources, and causes consumption by organizing life activities. In this study, it is aimed to emphasize the importance of including sustainability ideas in studio trainings, which constitute the most basic courses by looking at the role of the term sustainability in architectural education, to find application opportunities on their own designs in these courses and to have current information equipment in terms of vocational education. Within the scope of the study, the design works made by the students during the studio process on sustainable architecture carried out in the Summer School of the Eskişehir Technical University Architecture Undergraduate Program were evaluated. In the study, a literature review was conducted in line with the concepts using the qualitative research method, and student studies were examined with the parameters of the formation of sustainable living spaces. In this direction, it is recommended to integrate sustainable architecture themed courses into studio courses more and to develop methods that will support today's climate change problems in architectural education. |
