The Use of Vernacular Architectural Elements in Reused Traditional Houses Interıor Spaces: The Case of "Timurciler Konak"
Traditional houses generally cannot be used and remain in a dysfunctional situation with the changing needs and advances in technology from the past to the present. In recent years, the preservation of traditional houses in this situation by reusing has become a universal historical building conservation strategy. One of the major problems encountered in the reusing process is the lack of attention to the interior vernacular elements of traditional houses. The study focuses on the interventions made to the vernacular elements in the interior of traditional houses during the conservation processes and the use of these elements in their new function. In this context, Timurciler Konak in Ortamahalle, which hosts many different cultures in Trabzon, is discussed in the study. The study consists of three stages. In the first stage, the theoretical infrastructure was created with the data collection method, and the scope of the vernacular elements in the interior was determined. In the second stage, data on the Timurciler Konak, the study area, were obtained. In the third stage, the purpose, material, and usage situation of the local elements that the interior space of Timurciler Mansion was determined. In the findings of the study, it was determined that the vernacular elements were mostly used in their original form in the Konak. As a result of the study, it was emphasized that the vernacular elements that make up the interior space should be protected and used with a holistic understanding, without considering them independently of the building, in the interventions made to the traditional houses that are used by reusing. |
