Uses of Historical Bridges: The Case of Yozgat, Turkey
Bridges, which are transportation structures that connect two sides separated by obstacles in topography, have played an important role in road routes in activities such as trade, conquest and exploration from past to present. However, in the developing/transforming world, road routes, road/bridge construction techniques have changed in line with new techniques and requirements, roads have been expanded and most of these bridges have been left out of the transportation network and become inactive. Within the scope of this study, 21 historical stone bridges in Yozgat, Turkey, some of which have not survived, some of them in ruins and some of them in good condition, belonging to different periods, have been examined with both literature and fieldwork. It has been observed that some of the bridges examined were restored, and some remained idle due to the fact that they were out of the way, the elevation of the elevation or the drying of the water passing under them. In this study, it is aimed to develop suggestions for today's use of other historical stone bridges such as the "Historical Arch Bridge" (Armağan Bridge) located in the East Campus of Yozgat Bozok University, which was integrated with its environment and turned into urban furniture after the restoration was made. For this purpose, all historical stone bridges in the city were analyzed and suggestions were developed for their use in urban life. This study sets an example for preserving and transferring the historical bridges in ruins, which are quite numerous in Anatolia, to the future. |
