Ocean Liners and Modern Interiors: Remembering Karadeniz Cruise Ship through “Küçük Hanım Avrupa’da” Movie
From the mid-19th century through the mid-20th century, ocean liners were one of the most iconic showcases of modern technology and social change. By the spatial experience and aspirational life style it offers, ocean liners also became a source of inspiration for the development of modern architecture and design. In that respect, this study first of all aims to highlights ocean liner’s importance for the history of design as well as for the history of industry. The discussions are then brought to the Turkish context and by analyzing the 1962 dated movie “Küçük Hanım Avrupa’da [Little Lady in Europe], it is aimed to remember the Karadeniz [Black Sea] Ship and its modern interiors, which has a very important place in the history of Turkish cruise ships. |
