A Spatial Study on the Fictions of Life on Mars
As a thinking and feeling creature, human beings have needed a defined volume where they could feel safe and built shelters with the instinct of enclosing themselves in a shell since the moment when they entered into daily life. Thus, the shelter, which human beings defended as their center and most private space, and through which they settled somewhere, developed in accordance with their needs and became a more complex space over time. This spatial configuration, which is a house with its physical dimension and a home with its semantic dimension, will constantly transform as a dynamic structure in which daily life is articulated, and is discussed as a living space within the scope of this study. In the study, the sample of Mars, which has been studied intensively in recent years by institutions, foundations, private companies, scientists and especially designers and which aims to create new answers to different living conditions and provides settlement offers and settlement examples within the context of extraterrestrial life, was discussed. The settlement and design principles reflected from the whole to the interior space were examined especially through the projects developed for competitions, the original space formation and interior features were analyzed, and it was aimed to create a design infrastructure for the future and indirectly today's space design approaches. |
