Ataturk Airport, Opened in 1983: History of the Domestic Terminal Building
Transportation is defined as the act of transferring an object or a person from one place to another or going back and forth between settlements. This action has developed with humans and has been shaped by time and the technological conditions of the day. Today, air transportation is preferred more than other types of transportation such as road or railway because it provides fast and safe transportation. According to data published by the International Civil Aviation Organization, more than 4.5 billion passengers traveled by air in 2019. (ICAO, 2021) The development of air transportation has been influenced by the development of airline vehicles as well as the opening of new airports, new transportation routes between settlements, improvements made to existing airports and the provision of transportation alternatives such as metro or tram to airports. In this study, the Domestic Terminal Building, which was opened in 1983 at Atatürk Airport, which was opened for international service in 1953 and closed to international flight traffic in 2019, will be analyzed. |
