"Spatialization" of the Event: A Discussion on a Method to Increase Social Resilience over the İzmir Earthquake
The physical environment that constitutes the memory of the city changes and transforms depending on time. However, some events may cause sudden breaks and interruptions in this process. The effects caused by the earthquake in İzmir should be evaluated within this framework. While the emerging new situation creates the problem of the adaptation of communities to this process, it also raises the question of what kind of spatial story will fill the place of the lost past with the destroyed structures. What is discussed in this article is to construct the urban gaps that emerged after the debris with a flexible, transformable, awareness-raising program that is directly included in the daily life of the local. |
